The pair valve is a valve designed to allow air from the airbox into the
exhaust for emissions. If your pair valve is leaky your bike will backfire.
I did this mod just because the idea of allowing fresh air into the exhaust
just seems ridiculous. I took mine out while I was changing the plugs. The
mounting bolts were hard to get at but otherwise it was fairly easy. I did not
remove the metal tubes as shown in the picture below. I just put a stopper in
the hose.
